This approach accelerates natural plant breeding that has been a staple of farming for thousands of years and has resulted in a rapid, versatile and low-cost way to improve nutrition, increase crop yields, and reduce waste.

The company has a worldwide presence, with subsidiaries in Europe and North America and a state-of-the-art research and development center in San Diego. Cibus has a pipeline of traits for canola and rice and is developing crop platforms and a pipeline of trait products in other major global crops including soybean, corn, and wheat. The broad applicability of Cibus’ technologies is highlighted by the company’s strain-advancement program, which develops sustainable products in microbial platforms for the food, flavor and fragrance, and personal care markets.

Cibus has an immediate opening for a Facilities Specialist. This role will work across a variety of facilities including biotechnology laboratory settings, greenhouse, and warehouse environments. This position calls for a highly reliable, proactive, and collaborative individual.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Responsible on a 7/24 basis for the operations of the Roseville facility containing biotech labs, greenhouse and offices.
  • Hands-on work in the following areas, but not limited to, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, painting, site security system, and mechanical.
  • Serve as liaison with regulatory agencies and knowledgeable of their requirements to ensure Cibus’ compliance; ensure all permits are current and are being complied with.
  • Follow company safety policies to protect yourself, your colleagues, the worksite and the environment.
  • Respond to incoming work order requests and record progress using CMMS software in a timely manner. 
  • Regularly inspect buildings, grounds, and equipment to identify potential issues; perform diagnostics as needed.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs; engage teammates and external contractors as needed.
  • Coordinate the work of various service contractors ensuring quality results using safe work practices.
  • Work cooperatively with Purchasing and Accounting to source parts, create purchase orders, and verify proper delivery of goods and services.
  • Partner with all business units to ensure a safe and fit-for-purpose work environment.

Requirements:

  • Customer oriented approach with quality craftsmanship skills.
  • Experience using hand and power tools to perform a variety of trades work.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, fostering teamwork, collaboration, and open communication with a culture of mutual respect and inclusivity.
  • Verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Strong collaborative work effort with personnel at all levels of the company, as well as outside vendors and agencies.
  • Adaptable and open to feedback.
  • Ability to use sound judgment to resolve and troubleshoot issues.
  • Willing to work off-hours when needed and respond to facility/security emergencies during assigned “on call” periods.
  • Ability to climb fixed ladders onto the building roof to investigate issues that arise.
  • Works well under pressure to meet multiple deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite; knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), building management systems, card access systems and security systems are a plus.
  • Active First Aid/CPR/AED certification or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Demonstrable interest in continual learning to promote professional growth while supporting business needs.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma required; Trade School or Apprenticeship Program certificates are a plus. Minimum five (5) years’ experience in facilities maintenance. Experience with biotechnology facilities is highly desirable.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record
  • Physical ability to work in demanding situations including periods of standing, work in tight spaces, working at heights, reaching overhead, lifting at least 50 lbs.
